Don’t despair. If you are getting married (or taking part in a similar ceremony), if somebody who loves you thinks you deserve something shiny, if you’re treating yourself, if you’re treating somebody else – it’s OK to wear and to give diamonds. Ethical diamonds are one thing – but you never know what you’re going to get, and certifications are unfortunately not water tight. So forget about Leonardo DiCaprio for one second and, if you really want to play it safe, and get something that’s one of a kind, with a legacy, and a lot of good vibes. Get a vintage diamond.
Fay Cullen in Miami has just about the coolest collection of vintage, antique, Art Deco, sparkly diamonds in unique settings out there. They’re rings made when rings were made well, and they’ve lasted the test of time. How better to show your love for somebody than to give them an object that has been loved by another for decades?
Fay Cullen participates in Stop Blood Diamonds, an organization to do exactly that, and all their diamonds are JVC registered so they’re exactly as clear and perfect as they seem.
If you’re not into pre-loved jewels, (seriously take a look at these rings they’re one of a kind), and if you’re still not into pre-loved jewels, check out this consumer guide from Global Witness provides suggestions about where to buy diamonds while keeping your conscience intact. Don’t forget, though, that the diamond market in Africa is difficult to trace so you might not be wearing what you think you’re wearing.
Now, go out there and put a rock on your finger, baby!
